By the mid-19th century it was Russia's leading seaport and a major center of commerce, industry, and culture. The original locus of the 1917 Russian Revolution, it was replaced by Moscow as capital in 1918. Population: 4,600,000. 2. A city of west-central Florida on Tampa Bay south-southwest of Tampa. Settled in the mid-1800s, it is a port of entry and popular resort. Population: 248,000. |
