Musicians getting their due that day include horn player Lester Young, a prominent player in Count Basie's band, and bluesman Scott Dunbar (whose CD From Lake Mary is a rare treat).
10 Sandown The title of a jazz track recorded, in 1939, by a band extracted from the Count Basie Orchestra, which features a solo by the eponymous Lester Young.
Drummer Roy Haynes, 83, has worked with pretty much everyone who's ever been anyone in the evolution of jazz - from Lester Young in the 1940s, through Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Charles Mingus, John Coltrane and up to Pat Metheny and beyond - so playing with him is a tough call.
