After working as a letter cutter in Cambridge, he began to think of a new way of carving, inspired by inscriptions in early Christian Roman tombs, which were more simple than the classical letters used by his peers.
Byline: GARY NEWTON I AM writing this letter as a lover of modern art and design, an admirer of both modern and historic architecture, a practicing craftsman/designer working in the stone industry as a stone carver/ mason and letter cutter and as somebody who has visited art galleries across the world.
An old walled kitchen garden to the east has become the setting for stone tablets inscribed by letter cutters.
