The study of ligand binding and dimerization is an important part of drug discovery research.
The challenges with these methods have thus far constrained the study of ligand binding strengths to a limited number of integral membrane proteins.
Although this phenomenon has been initially related to multi-subunit enzyme complexes, where ligand binding at one subunit affects binding site affinity on other subunit(s) [1-3], more recently attention has been paid to the possibility of allosteric regulation within monomeric proteins [3,4].
