A lightning break initiated by Kuyt and continued by Gerrard and Torres culminated with the Spaniard crossing into the box and Emiliano Insua, unmarked at the far post and goalkeeper Sorensen out of position, side-footing first time into the sidenetting.
Villa were ahead in the 14th minute following a lightning break down the right with Albrighton crossing for Heskey to supply a neat finish.
