Loew  (l), Marcus 1870-1927.
American motion-picture producer who founded a national chain of movie theaters (1912). Later, as head of Metro Pictures, he helped orchestrate the series of mergers that led to the formation of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (1924).

Captain Michael Ballack will miss Germany's World Cup warm-up clash on Wednesday against the Ivory Coast as the Chelsea star has failed to recover from a minor knee injury, coach Joachim Loew said.
The German squad has been rocked by a bitter dispute between coach Loew and senior players Michael Ballack and Torsten Frings.
English Premier League leaders Chelsea have refused to allow Michael Ballack to travel to Germany to meet coach Joachim Loew for crisis talks which could determine his international future.
