Baker, who marked his 70th birthday during the hearings, is a Lord Justice of Appeal who spent much of his career in the family division, rather than as a coroner, but conducted the hearings briskly and with equanimity.
He was a Lord Justice of Appeal from 1983 to 1993, and Deputy Chief Justice of England and Wales from 1988 until his retirement in 1993.
Educated at King's College School, Wimbledon and St John's College Oxford, he was called to the bar in 1975 and became a High Court Judge in 1997 before becoming a Lord Justice of Appeal in 2005.
