Torrigiano was the most prominent of the group of boys whom Lorenzo de'Medici, the Magnificent, invited to study in his sculpture garden - until Michelangelo Buonarroti came along.
Donadio studied at the Scuola Lorenzo de'Medici in Florence, Italy.
His chin rests in his hand in melancholic thought, like the figure of Lorenzo de'Medici on his tomb by Michelangelo, but he is gnawing on his fingers, surrounded by the dying boys whose suffering drives him to distraction.
