In this chapter the author introduces the subject of the diplomatic gift arriving from the East citing a celadon dish presented to Lorenzo the Magnificent (1449-92) by the ruler of Egypt.
And though less documentary evidence survives from the intellectual circle surrounding Lorenzo the Magnificent, art historians have long associated the poetic imagery of Botticelli's mythologies with the classical and Neoplatonic interests of this fertile environment.
