Byline: MIRIAM STOPPARD As an ex-smoker - and someone who recently had pneumonia - I can't stress enough how important an early lung function test can be in helping to prevent serious lung disease.
A survey of more than 400 people for the British Lung Foundation found 73 per cent had not had a lung function test despite 21 per cent experiencing symptoms of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).
In patients with scleroderma, you usually see lung function tests getting worse over time, and if doctors try a therapy for a year and a patient doesn't get any worse, we get pretty excited.
