Although a laser treatment of the retina called grid photocoagulation has shown a benefit in improving the vision of patients with blockages in smaller branches of the retinal vein, there is presently no effective therapy for vision loss associated with macular edema after central retinal vein occlusion-blockage in the main portion of the retinal vein, at the optic nerve.
These studies will expand the companies' global development collaboration for VEGF Trap-Eye, which already includes two ongoing Phase 3 studies in patients with the neovascular form of Age-related Macular Degeneration (wet AMD) and a Phase 2 study in patients with Diabetic Macular Edema (DME).
Management and treatment targets for dry AMD are also presented, as well as the practical implications of the management of diabetic macular edema and retinal vein occlusions.
