Debido a esto, si dicho escaño queda vacante por fallecimiento o dimisión de un parlamentario y se convocan elecciones parciales con carácter excepcional para cubrirlo (by-election), el resultado de las mismas será tomado por los medios de comunicación como un indicador de la popularidad del gobierno.
