Health Secretary Francisco Duque said the government is closely monitoring Marikina, a Manila suburb and one of the hardest hit by floods brought by Tropical Storm Ketsana.
The health department has declared an outbreak of the bacterial disease in the Marikina section of Manila, one of the areas hardest hit by Ketsana, which flooded 80 percent of the capital on September 26.
Thousands of residents of Marikina city, east of Manila, remain homeless and tons of debris and mud are being scooped up in the massive clean-up following the September 26 floods brought by Tropical Storm Ketsana, which left at least 250 dead.
