Ma·kar·i·os III

 (mə-kăr′ē-əs, -ōs′, mä-kä′rē-ôs) Originally Mikhail Khristodolou Mouskos. 1913-1977.
Cypriot prelate and politician. Archbishop of the Orthodox Church of Cyprus (1950-1977), he supported the political unification of Cyprus and Greece and was the first president of independent Cyprus (1959-1977).
