A 1006 millibar low pressure area centered southwest of the Mona passage and its associated bands of clouds, showers and thunderstorms affected Puerto Rico during the period from October 25-29.
They've discovered that the Virgin Islands corridor provides a practical alternative to the heavily guarded Florida Straits or the rough Mona Passage between the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, which last year became a popular route.
The Mona Passage is an 80-mile-wide channel between Puerto Rica and the island of Hispaniola where the powerful Atlantic and Caribbean currents meet.
