The men are all dressed for business, Henry Rigby in a lounge suit while the agent - and possibly the chief's son too - wear more formal morning coats, identifiable by their cutaway fronts.
In the rest of the world, hairspray for men has gone the way of the dodo and the Sodastream, but at Royal Ascot it still exists in a parallel universe, alongside morning coats, cravats and wealthy people who like to bet pounds 2 each-way at 7-4.
I won't be asking visitors to wear morning coats but I would like to see the ladies in nice summer frocks, with linen suits and Panamas for men.
