A burgh of south-central Scotland on the Clyde River southeast of Glasgow. Consolidated in 1920, it has various heavy industries. Population: 136,000.

FORMER First Minister Jack McConnell will fight to remain MSP for Motherwell and Wishaw in the Holyrood elections in 2011.
The rivals argued the pounds 1billion scheme would harm shopping centres in Motherwell and Wishaw.
