Mount·bat·ten  (mount-btn), Louis. First Earl Mountbatten of Burma. 1900-1979.
British naval officer and colonial administrator who was supreme Allied commander in southeast Asia (1943-1946) and the last viceroy and governor-general of India (1947). He was assassinated by the Irish Republican Army.

On April 8, 1942, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth (later the Queen Mother) visited the set with the Mountbattens and the princesses Elizabeth and Margaret.
The main figures in the book are Gandhi, Jinnah, Nehru and the Mountbattens.
There are also several other images of this historical event: of Muslim refugees at the camps at Humayun's Tomb and Purana Qila in Delhi, and of the Mountbattens touring battle-scarred towns and cities in Pakistan.
