Mul·tan  (ml-tän)
A city of east-central Pakistan southwest of Lahore. Conquered c. 326 b.c. by Alexander the Great, it was captured by Tamerlane in 1398 and was under British jurisdiction from 1849 until 1947. Population: 1,430,000.
