Mur·frees·bor·o  (mûrfrz-bûr, -br)
A city of central Tennessee southeast of Nashville. The state capital from 1819 to 1825, it was the site of a hard-fought Union victory in the Battle of Murfreesboro (December 31, 1862-January 2, 1863). Population: 92,600.
