Loved-up Albert and Bud, two mute swans, have become a permanent fixture on the lake at the end of Castle Park, Kilkenny, and are enchanting locals and visitors alike. Technically the Crown owns all the unmarked, mute swans in open water in Britain but the ritual has not been witnessed by a monarch in centuries. For some reason this is the first time Elizabeth II has attended the annual practice, which involves counting the unmarked mute swans on the River Thames. |
