(Biographies / Sithole, Ndabaningi (1920 M, Zimbabwean, RELIGION: clergyman, POLITICS: politician) Ndabaningi (əndabaˈnɪŋgɪ). born 1920, Zimbabwean clergyman and politician; leader of the Zimbabwe African National Union (1963-74). He was one of the negotiators of the internal settlement (1978) to pave the way for Black majority rule in Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe)

Quite often a considerable section of the Zimbabwean public has expressed their outrage at the denial of national hero status to personalities such as Ndabaningi Sithole and James Chikerema, or non-politicians such as philanthropist Jairosi Jiri and national poet Solomon Mutswairo.
While he outlines the tensions that always existed between Robert Mugabe and Joshua Nkomo and makes reference to Ndabaningi Sithole, Leopold Takawira and Josiah Tongogara--there is no mention of Herbert Chitepo, a founder-member of Zanu who was largely responsible for the formation of Zanla (Zanu's military wing) and developing its strategies.
Among the defectors were Reverend Ndabaningi Sithole and Robert Mugabe who were later elected president and secretary-general of Zanu respectively.
