a European movement of the late 18th century differing from earlier classical revivals in that it deliberately and consciously imitated antique models such as those found between 1738-56 in Herculaneum, Paestum, and Pompeii. — Neo-Classicist, n. — Neo-Classic, Neo-Classical, adj.

The work offers wide-ranging coverage of subjects that are derived from, related to, or based on the classical tradition, for example, neo-classicism, or the reception and historiography of classical art, architecture, and thought in the West.
Like the: house for Sir John Soane (1753-1837, the building was open to the public, and played no small part in popularising Neo-Classicism (the picture-gallery was one of the earliest English interiors to be articulated with the Greek Doric Order).
However, neo-classicism was not entirely forgotten.
