Prime Minister Stephen Harper's Conservatives now hold 145 seats in the 308-seat House of Commons, versus 77 for the main opposition Liberals, 48 for the separatist Bloc Quebecois, 37 for the leftist New Democratic Party and one independent.
This will be a Liberal-led government in collaboration with the New Democratic Party and with the support of the (separatist) Bloc Quebecois.
In November 2003, Beatty was elected to represent the provincial riding of Cumberland in the Saskatchewan provincial legislature as a member of the New Democratic Party (NDP), and was re-elected as the riding's MLA in the Nov.
