1. (Placename) a town in Northern Ireland, in Newtownabbey district, Co. Antrim on Belfast Lough: the third largest town in Northern Ireland, formed in 1958 by the amalgamation of seven villages; light industrial centre, esp for textiles. Pop.: 57 103 (1991)
2. (Placename) a district of E Northern Ireland, in Co. Antrim. Pop.: 79 995 (2001). Area: 151 sq. km (58 sq. miles)
