Ghanaian politician. Instrumental in achieving Ghana's independence from Great Britain (1957), he became president (1960) but was deposed in a coup d'état (1966).

He led demands for self- government in the 1950s, achieving Ghanaian independence in 1957. He was overthrown by a military coup (1966)
