Summary: A senior British Army officer has been arrested in Afghanistan on suspicion of breaching the Official Secrets Act.
Peter Hill, 23, was arrested last November under the Official Secrets Act 1911 and material was allegedly found at his home in Skipton, North Yorkshire, that led to him being charged under the Explosive Substances Act 1883.
The failed prosecution of Foreign Office civil servant Derek Pasquill under the 1989 Official Secrets Act for leaking documents to this paper once again raises questions over the government's troubling use of laws to protect not the state but its own reputation.
