Some of this legend is recorded in the 1932 book Black Elk Speaks: The Life Story of a Holy Man of the Ogalala Sioux, by John G.
Four of the Ogalala headmen visible in the Brady photographs (Figures 1a & 1b) are shown wearing a large metal cross around their neck, suspended by a handkerchief.
Other clients include the Ogalala Sioux (Lakota) Housing, Northern Cheyenne tribe and the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians.
