Though it is common to hear reports of online identity theft, websites and payment processing companies (such as PayPal) are becoming continually safer.
To prevent the chances of online identity theft a person should use his real name both in the profile and in the information section of the sites.
The study also found that data breaches accounted for 11 percent of fraud cases in 2008, and online identity theft methods -- phishing, hacking and malware, for example -- accounted for another 11 percent.
