[Short for Italian panino (imbottito), stuffed bread, sandwich : panino, diminutive of pane, bread + imbottito, past participle of imbottire, to stuff.]

After a remarkably friendly welcome, I took a seat amid the cheerful bustle and ordered La Forta, a panino with spicy chorizo, roasted peppers and pecorino cheese.
