Pank·hurst  (pngkhûrst), Emmeline Goulden 1858-1928.
British suffrage leader who advocated militancy and violence in order to gain public recognition. With her daughters Christabel Pankhurst (1880-1958) and Sylvia Pankhurst (1882-1960) she founded (1903) the Women's Social and Political Union, a women-only, nonpartisan group whose motto was "Deeds, not Words."
