A progressive neurologic disease occurring most often after the age of 50, associated with the destruction of brain cells that produce dopamine. Individuals with Parkinson's disease exhibit tremors while at rest, slowing of movement, stiffening of gait and posture, and weakness. The disease is named after its discoverer, British physician and paleontologist James Parkinson (1755-1824).

The accurate differentiation of Parkinsonian from non-Parkinsonian tremors has important clinical implications in terms of initiating effective treatment, minimizing unnecessary treatment side-effects (by reducing the number of inappropriately treated patients), and providing a more accurate prognosis for patients and their families (since Parkinsonian tremors have a relatively poor prognosis compared to non-Parkinsonian tremors).
NASDAQ: BLSI) announced that the Company has reached a binding agreement from the FDA regarding the Company's protocol design for a new Phase III clinical trial of ALTROPANE(R), a radioimaging agent under development by Boston Life Sciences for the differentiation of Parkinsonian tremors from tremors due to other, non-Parkinsonian causes.
This trial will be designed to specifically distinguish Benign Essential Tremor (BET) from Parkinsonian tremors, which is an important clinical problem.
