peer-to-peer network  (pîrt-pîr)
A network of personal computers, each of which acts as both client and sever, so that each can exchange files and email directly with every other computer on the network. Each computer can access any of the others, although access can be restricted to those files that a computer's user chooses to make available. Peer-to-peer networks are less expensive than client/server networks but less efficient when large amounts of data need to be exchanged. Compare client/server network.

Wired reported that leaks suggest the agreement would "criminalize peer-to-peer file sharing, subject iPods to border searches, and allow Internet service providers to monitor their customers' communications.
With the simplest set-up process in the industry, the ix2 not only provides home and small business network storage users with such important features as media serving, Bluetooth and video surveillance capabilities, now we've added remote access so users can connect to their files from anywhere in the world, as well as the new standard in peer-to-peer file sharing and much more," said Cizar Nazeeh Abughazaleh, Regional Sales Manager, Middle East, Africa and Turkey, Iomega Corporation.
lt;p>The upgraded ix2 NAS drives also allow torrent downloads for peer-to-peer file sharing that facilitates download management directly to the StorCenter ix2.
