Pes·ca·do·res (p s k -dôr  z, - s, -d r-) In Pinyin Peng·hu (p ngh ) An island group in Taiwan Strait between the western coast of Taiwan and southwest China. The name, meaning "fishermen's islands," was given to the group by the Portuguese in the 16th century. Ceded to Japan in 1895 and returned to China after World War II, the islands have been administered by Taiwan since 1949. |
