A city of eastern Russia on the Pacific coast of the Kamchatka Peninsula. Ice-free seven months a year, it is a major port and naval base. Population: 196,000.

``We're halfway between Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy and Adak Island, and the conditions are less than favourable.
Local authorities sent helicopters to search for the two Japanese from Monday morning and found the bodies about six hours later, the officials said, adding their bodies were being sent to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy, a city in the Kamchatka Peninsula.
