A compound called phaseolus vulgaris present in the beans prevents the alpha amylase enzyme of our digestive system from converting carbs into sugars.
A study entitled "A Dietary Supplement Containing Standardized Phaseolus vulgaris Extract Influences Body Composition of Overweight Men and Women" was published in the January 2007 issue of the International Journal of Medical Sciences.
Carolus Linnaeus (1707-1778) observed these plants and designated them as Phaseolus vulgaris L.
