While there are several substantial collections of late nineteenth and early twentieth century beadwork in existence, especially at the Mashu Museum of Ethnology, the Local History Museum in Durban, the Natal Museum in Pietermartizburg, and the KwaZulu Cultural Museum in Ondini, most of the items are vaguely dated and only provenanced to either Natal (meaning the southern part of the Zulu kingdom) or Zululand (referring to the northern part of the kingdom).
