A device, essentially a tube set parallel to the direction of fluid-stream movement and attached to a manometer, used to measure the total pressure of the fluid stream.

Aug 11, 2009 Airbus, Thales Operators of Airbus A330s and A340s will have a four-month window to replace Thales Avionics pitot probes once Europe's safety regulator firms up the proposal for an airworthiness directive it published last week.
But this week an Airbus jet equipped with new generation pitot probes made by European electronics firm Thales experienced a similar malfunction, causing pilots' unions to demand versions built by its US rival Goodrich.
Qantas has not received any directive or recommendation from either our pitot probe manufacturer, or from Airbus or regulatory authorities, to replace these probes.
