Reishi and turkey tail Reishi (Ganoderma lucidum) and turkey tail (Trametes versicolor) are both shelf polypores growing on dead or dying trees.
Coverage includes edible species of new York, such as the boletes, chanterelles and their allies, coral fungi, gilled mushrooms, giant puffballs, hypomyces, morels, polypores and tooth fungi; and the inedible and poisonous species amongst the boletes, false morels and gilled.
The most intriguing find, collected by Ellifritz, belongs in the general group of polypores, wood-loving fungi that bear spores in little tubes on their undersides.
