The Portuguese Water Dog Originated in Portugal where they were used to herd fish into the fishermen's nets, retrieving anything that fell overboard.
Our contribution to this paper is data collected on the Portuguese water dog that indicated that keratin genes controlled the amount of curliness.
While the Portuguese Water Dog might look like a Poodle, it does not have the extravagant haircut that a Poodle has.
