Iraqi President Jalal Talabani said he supported his vice president in his veto, noting the three members of the Presidential Board (PB) decided to sign the law and later send a draft amendment but "Hashemi practiced his right as to veto certain articles of the law.
These included all political appointees throughout the executive branch, including cabinet, sub-cabinet and ambassadorial posts, as well as presidential boards and commissions.
Several political blocs have called on the Presidential Board (PB) to veto the law and return it to the Parliament, while others pressed for holding the elections on time.
