A flowering apricot tree, Prunus mume, can bloom in Georgia in January, but in Illinois, the flowering is delayed until April or May, depending on the large temperature difference.
The apricot trees are best known as fruit producing trees, but a recent national market for flowering trees, Prunus mume, has rapidly developed, because of the abundant white, pink, or red flowers that can appear as early as the winter in some in some areas of the United States.
Prunus mume flowers, in early spring with flower colors of red, pink, and white, all blooming on the same twigs of the tree.
