The Student Loans Company resets the interest rate payable every September 1, based on the level of RPI inflation in March. July's RPI is also expected to herald lower rail fares for passengers from next January. At the beginning of this year, prices went up by 6% according to the formula - based on last July's 5% RPI reading - but are likely to fall next January with the measure mired deep in negative territory. |
