I READ with interest the correspondence of B Perry regarding rag-and-bone men (Letters, April 23).
Northumbria Police and the Environment Agency officers joined forces for a day-long operation aimed at fly tippers, stopping bogus rag-and-bone men and making the roads safer.
Either side of the war, rag-and-bone men, later popularised by the immortal Steptoe & Son on television, were regular visitors along every street.
