The March 1979 backdrop to these dramatics appears to be Grainger Street, and you may recognise some of its shops from back then; H Samuel, Dolcis, Rediffusion and Apache.
He made the transition to television in 1953 with the children's programme Whirligig, before moving to Associated Rediffusion as a light music adviser, with the coming of independent television in 1955.
If you didn't have Rediffusion or could not get a signal from Huddersfield, then until 1959 there was only one channel - BBC.
