n (Placename) a county of NW Wales, formed in 1974 from Anglesey, Caernarvonshire, part of Denbighshire, and most of Merionethshire; lost Anglesey and part of the NE in 1996: generally mountainous with many lakes, much of it lying in the Snowdonia National Park. On Monday night, Dwr Cymru Welsh Water ordered 5,000 people living in the Tywyn, Aberdyfi, Bryncrug, Rhyd-yr-Onnen and Brynglas areas of Gwynedd to boil their drinking water or use bottled water as a precaution. |
