According to the Renewable Energy Association (REA) Rudolf Diesel invented the diesel engine to run on vegetable oil, fuelling his first demonstration with peanut oil and stating in 1913 that: "The use of vegetable oils for engine fuels may seem insignificant today but such oils may become in course of time as important as petroleum.
1858: Rudolf Diesel, German engineer who invented the diesel engine, was born in Paris.
