The antimicrobial metals can be silver, zinc, or copper compounds, such as silver saccharinate.
The saccharinate ion has been shown to be a very versatile ligand, since it offers different donor atoms to metal centers, namely N, O(carbonyl) and two O (sulfonyl) atoms.
In the last years, there has been reported on mixed ligand complexes containing simultaneosly saccharinate and some other ligands in the coordination sphere: pyridine [6,7], imidazole [5], 2,2'bipyridine [8].
Here we report the products of the reaction of copper saccharinate and pyrazole and, imidazole (scheme II) in methanol, to see if there are changes in the coordinations sphere of the saccharinate complexes.
Methods and Materials: Solvents, pyrazole, imidazole, copper nitrate, and sodium saccharinate were used as commercially available products.
The carbonyl group's oxygen atom of one saccharinate ion, the nitrogen atom of the other saccharinate ion and a nitrogen atom of the pyrazole molecule build the trigonal plane.
Experimental dentifrices were formulated by FGM Dental Products (Joinvile, SC, Brazil) with the following composition: carboxymethyl cellulose, methyl p sodium hydroxybenzoate, sodium saccharinate, mental oil, propyleneglycol, glycerin, sorbitol, flavoring agents, hydrated silica, thickening silica, deionized water, lauril-sodium sulphate and sodium fluoride.
