Among my favorites are Salvia apiana, with chalk white foliage, the ground-hugging Salvia leucophylla ``Gracias,'' and Salvia spathacea, the shade-tolerant pitcher sage with magenta flowers and felt-covered leaves.
Salvia apiana, another California native, has distinctive white leaves.
