Samuel Barber wrote his famous and well-loved Adagio for Strings in 1936 as an instrumental piece and later prepared it for an eight-part chorus and set it to the words of the "Agnus Dei.
BARITONE GERALD FINLEY WON THE Solo Vocal category of the 2008 Classic FM Gramophone Awards (he was also a nominee as 2008 Artist of the Year) for his recording, The Songs of Samuel Barber (Hyperion), with accompanist Julius Drake.
Benjamin Britten and Samuel Barber are two giants of 20th century classical music, both men are celebrities who came of age during war times.
